These specialized drawknives are used for preliminary hollowing on the inner faces of bucket and barrel staves. Most older cooper's knives were made with a shallow sweep that is appropriate for large stave containers, such as wine or whiskey barrels. The curve and overall size of our version is intended for coopered containers approximately 8-16" in diameter. Based on a Swiss pattern, similar to those used by Küfermeister Ruedi Kohler. These are made by Hans Karlsson in Sweden.
