Chairmakers and other traditional woodworkers have made their own wooden body shaves for centuries. These tanged blades cut at a about 30 degrees, compared to 45 degrees for an iron body spokeshave. This is particularly useful for shaving endgrain. Shallow curved travishers are mostly used for shaping Windsor chair seats, although this tool can also be used for putting an eye appealing, slightly scalloped finish on furniture, or other woodworking projects. Instructions for making a simple version of a travisher body are found in Drew's book, The Chairmaker's Workshop. These blades require final honing before use.
